Canon EOS 700D Review

The Canon EOS 700D is an upgrade from its predecessor, the Canon EOS 650D.

The main upgrade is the EF-S 18.5mm f lens kit which leads to significant reduction of noise.

If you’re looking at mid-range camera models, then this one is the perfect option for you.

With the newer models being launched, you can be sure that you would be able to get this at a bargain price.

We would today go into the details of this camera to help you decide if it is the right one for you.

Design and build

The Good

1. The camera has a superior textured look as compared to its predecessor.

2. The camera features a new dial mode which can turn 360 degrees.

3. The hinged screen of the camera is pretty versatile with sideways as well as downwards rotation possible. This enables you to take waist level shots pretty easily.

4. The touchscreen is very responsive allowing you to adjust settings in a very short time.

The Not So Good

1. The screen is prone to smudging due to fingerprints. It needs to be cleaned frequently.

Image Quality

The Good

1. The camera allows you to use creative filters in real time to understand the effect of filters.

The Not So Good

1. The Canon EOS 700D has only 9 auto-focus points which are less compared to other models.

Video quality

The Good

1. The camera offers you autofocus option in video mode for subject tracking.

2. Capable of capturing 1080p video and with built-in stereo mics, the sound captured is also of pretty high quality.

The Not So Good

1. The signal to noise ratio is not as good as some of the other dynamic range cameras.

2. The live mode and the movie mode are not independent which can create a hindrance.

Agility and speed

The Good

1. The shutter speed is pretty good at only 0.05.

2. The switch on to taking a photo time stands at 0.7 which is pretty fast considering the segment in which it is.

The Not So Good

1. The camera takes a longer time to focus for live view photos.

Battery life

The camera offers a battery life of 440 shots which is pretty much the industry standard these days.

The battery though could have been a bit more, considering the features which take up a lot of it.

If you’re looking for an entry-mid level DSLR, this is one of the best options which you have got in a smaller package.

The touchscreen is pretty responsive which makes it easier for you to operate the camera.

If you’re looking at the improvements which it has achieved over its predecessor, there are quite a few of them.

So, you can definitely go ahead and opt for Canon EOS 700D if it is what that suits your needs.
